The San Mames stadium in Bilbao, Spain will host the Europa League final
The current UEFA Europa League season, which is already the 55th, continues the glorious traditions of this minor club tournament organized by UEFA. Last year, the Italian Atalanta won the title, defeating the German Bayer in the final with a confident score of 3:0 in Dublin. It is noteworthy that the Russian midfielder Alexei Miranchuk, who was on the Atalanta roster, did not take to the field, remaining on the bench. Nevertheless, the match was remembered by fans thanks to the spectacular hat-trick of Ademola Lookman, who scored in the 12th, 25th and 75th minutes. This victory was historic for Atalanta, as their previous best achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2020.
The San Mamés stadium, where the final will take place, is the home arena of Athletic Bilbao. It is not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the oldest sports facilities in the world. Its history began with the laying of the first stone on January 20, 1913, and the official opening took place on August 21 of the same year. In Spain, only El Molinón in Gijón is older than San Mamés. Initially, the stadium held 3,500 spectators, but after numerous reconstructions it can now accommodate 45 thousand fans from all over the world.
