This year, the 70th season of the leading European football tournament for Europe's elite clubs is being held under the Swiss system for the first time

Reigning champions Real Madrid reaffirmed their status by beating Atletico Madrid on penalties to book a place in the quarter-finals. Real Madrid's victory was brought by midfielder Brahim Diaz, who scored the decisive goal in the 55th minute.
