London's Chelsea are considered the main favourites to win the Conference League in the 2024-25 season
The 1/8 finals of the Conference League kicked off on March 6, with the return games taking place on March 13. The top eight teams included Chelsea (England), Victoria (Portugal), Fiorentina (Italy), Rapid (Austria), Djurgården (Sweden), Lugano (Switzerland), Legia (Poland), and Cercle Brugge (Belgium). Unfortunately, Jagiellonia (Poland), despite a successful start, failed to advance to this stage, losing to Legia.
The tournament leaders were Chelsea, Victoria, and Fiorentina. The English team confidently holds first place, ahead of its closest rivals in points, which makes their gap quite impressive. Last year, Greek side Olympiacos won the title after beating Fiorentina 1-0 at the Agia Sophia Stadium in Athens. However, this season, the British team have all the chances to win.
Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea have collected 18 points from six matches, scored 26 goals and are unbeaten and draw zero. The Londoners can adapt to different styles of play, using either a 5-3-2 or 4-4-2 formation, making their tactics flexible and balanced. Maresca’s side effectively combine long and short passes, which brings success against more aggressive opponents. Chelsea’s star-studded squad includes the likes of charismatic forward Mark Guiou, who has scored six goals this season. Christopher Nkou Nkou, a former Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig player, also made his mark, scoring five goals in the group stage. The Ukrainian winger was a real star in the match against Panathinaikos, which Chelsea won 4-1.
