On April 11, a tense game took place between Lyon and Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. In a dramatic duel, Lyon managed to snatch victory in the dying moments. Although Manchester United were close to securing their lead, a mistake by their goalkeeper allowed the French club to equalize thanks to a goal from Leni Joro in stoppage time of the first half.

In the second half, Joshua Zirkzee put United ahead with an accurate header. However, Ryan Cherki rose to the occasion when Onana missed to open the scoring for Lyon. Onana then set up Cherki for the equaliser.

Thiago Almada scored a free-kick in the first half, but United's lead was short-lived. Leni Joro scored his debut goal for United after the break to level the scores again. However, it was towards the end of the game that Joshua Zirkzee scored England's second. However, Cherki changed the game again in the closing minutes of the second half, leaving the return leg at Old Trafford next week intriguing.
