The Baku Olympic Stadium will host a match that has been eagerly awaited in Azerbaijan since the draw took place: the Azerbaijani champions, Sabah, will face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League league phase. The visit of the Catalan side is one of the region's most anticipated football events of the year, drawing fans not only from Baku but also from neighboring countries. Ticket sales are already open, so it is advisable to plan your trip and purchase tickets in advance.
FC Barcelona is a five-time winner of the tournament, having claimed Europe's premier club trophy in 1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2015. The team is managed by Hansi Flick, under whom the Catalans play an attacking style of football characterized by a high defensive line and aggressive pressing. Spectators in Baku will have the chance to see stars of the new generation in action—such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, graduates of the famous La Masia academy, as well as Pedri.
For the hosts, this match represents the ultimate test of the season. Sabah has reached the Champions League for the first time and will be facing Barcelona—a club accustomed to dictating the flow of the game against any opponent. The Baku side will need to withstand the pressure and capitalize on their chances; Valdas Dambrauskas’s team has already proven during the qualifiers that they can fight right up to the final whistle. Matches between clubs of different "weight classes" add a special flavor to the tournament: every point counts toward the final standing in the unified league table, and all of Europe will be watching Sabah’s brand of football on this night.
